Hurricane Beryl Prompts Flight Cancellations by Canadian Airlines: Key Information
Tumblr media
As Hurricane Beryl roars towards the Cayman Islands and Mexico, a wave of flight cancellations and travel warnings have impacted Canadian travellers, following the storm’s path of devastation across the Caribbean.
On Thursday, Air Canada grounded its flights to and from Montego Bay, Jamaica, as well as its round-trip flights to Grand Cayman and Cancun. Additionally, the airline has cancelled ten flights scheduled for Friday and Saturday to and from Tulum and Cancun in Mexico.
“Passengers scheduled to travel on these flights have been rebooked,” announced Air Canada Vacations on its website.

Picture it, Calgary, 2023.
Westjet and Air Canada have cancelled multiple flights, which somehow means fewer crew and planes. Delays and cancellations abound, even for those not flying to burning areas.
Westjet tells a plane full of passengers who have missed connections to go get their baggage and proceed to the check in desk for new boarding passes. Which will take them outside the security points.
By this time, it is midnight. Every hotel in the city is full. People have come to realize that they must sleep in the airport, as no flights have been rescheduled until the following day.
But LO, Calgary Airport security says NAY PASSENGERS. You must sleep in the arrivals area, for no one can proceed through security again until 4am. No matter the need for comfortable places to rest. Goest now and fucketh thyself.
The End.

A Toronto man’s trip home from Calgary on a Porter Airlines flight was quickly derailed Sunday after he was denied access to the plane because of his power wheelchair, even after he cleared the issue with the airline before his flight. Ken Harrower was set to board the flight at the Calgary International Airport when he was approached by the pilot, who insisted he couldn’t board the flight with his wheelchair due to the batteries it uses. “The pilot decided to not let me board because I cannot disconnect the batteries on my chair,” Harrower told Global News. According to Harrower, the batteries in his chair can’t be disconnected without a trained technician.

That's Fifty Done.
Progress through the Buffalo fleet is slow, but they are a detailed lot, with tons of good photos to analyze and emulate.

As a reward to myself (and maybe someone else?), I'm taking a break to design my first abstract t-shirt. Partly for the fun of seeing my own art on my own bod, and partly to review the quality of the next shirt manufacturer/model I'm selecting --the Bella+Canvas 3001.

In 1949, Albert Guay was found guilty of conspiring with siblings Marguerite Ruest Pitre and Genereux Ruest to blow up Canadian Pacific Air Lines Flight 108 in order to kill Guay’s wife, Rita Morel. All passengers on board lost their lives. In addition to financial gain, Guay wanted to be free to pursue a romantic relationship with teenager Marie Ange Robitaille, pictured below. #no wait listen to me. listen to me#im south asian. my grandparents were muslim. my great aunt and uncle and their children and my parents siblings are all muslim#my parents aren't. they raised us without any religion. without even our national cultural ceremonies tied to islam#dont let yourself believe for a fucking second that has nothing to do 9/11 happening two years before i was born. two years before we moved#im south asian. my dad's first name is mohammed. when we catch a flight we get to the airport two hours earlier-#to account for the time it'll take my dad to be 'routinely stopped and searched' by airport security#routinely is right lmfao. it happens every time we fly#last time i was on an american airlines flight our checked luggage ended up across the continent and took two days to get to us#(my 12yo cousin gifted us an alarm clock that made an ominous ticking noise and we couldn't shut it the fuck up-#the luggage was labeled mohammed and coming from south asia. my sibling jokes it's a wonder we got it back)#im canadian. i cried my ass off to cfa tonight bc of how touching the story of a small town coming together to help a group of strangers is#(can't help thinking that never would've happened in a bigger city? but thereby lies another tale)#and god normally i hate 9/11 stories bc it feels like two sides of my identity being pitted against each other and it makes me so uncomfy#like as a canadian i should be sympathetic towards the states and at the same time im viscerally aware of the lasting prejudiced impacts#but cfa did it so beautifully#will never get over the 'thorough search' scene. 'you will never understand'.#the lump in my throat i get every time I watch my normally distinguished and tough and coolheaded father be pushed through airport security#how resigned he is to it. how he tries to stay dignified. how scared my mom gets every time. how rough they are with him#when he usually commands respect#and yet also the pride and the lump in my throat i got today knowing it was a little canadian town that made a difference#sigh enough out of me i just have a lot of feelings#come from away#team screams

A mother is still reeling after her daughter's wheelchair was broken on a flight, and says her child had to crawl out of the plane on her stomach and didn't have access to a wheelchair on her trip. "The whole thing was very frustrating," said Sarah Turnbull, who has been struggling to get answers from WestJet since the incident in early October. Since then, her daughter Blake — who has spina bifida and is paraplegic — has been without her own pediatric wheelchair. "They weren't kind, they were derogatory, they broke our mobility devices, and there's been no support." Turnbull said the problem began when she, her daughter, her son, her mother who is also an intermittent wheelchair user, and her father arrived in Toronto.
